In October, a woman stole more than $300 in clothing from a downtown merchant. A second woman later entered the store and returned the stolen items and received a gift card for the items’ value. The woman returning the items provided the store employee their name, Kathy Deacon, police said.

The investigation later determined the suspect who returned the stolen items was Kathy Deacon, 65, of Hyde Park in Dutchess County and a warrant for her arrest was issued.

Deacon turned herself in at Westport Police headquarters on Monday on the active warrant. She was charged with larceny conspiracy to commit larceny. She was released after posting $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on Feb. 2.
